Mental Health America (MHA) is seeking an experienced Senior Director for Corporate and Foundation Giving who will be responsible for managing relationships with foundations, think tanks, and certain major or corporate individual donors with an interest in funding scientific or policy-related work in mental health. This position focuses on philanthropists who want to engage in advancing public health and population health, prevention, research, and public policy. This position requires a higher degree of sophistication and subject matter knowledge related to mental health and/or health as the position will be expected to liaise between program/policy/research staff and potential donors. In addition to managing current relationships, the position should also identify and steward major giving prospects. Written grant proposals are scientific and technical in nature rather than emotionally persuasive.
Job Overview:
Strategic corporate and foundation partner relationship management: Maintain ongoing stewardship with current donors by identifying areas of mutual interest and developing relationships that meet MHA fundraising goals
Promotes existing and planned program work to funders
Meets regularly with philanthropy contacts at businesses and foundations to keep them aware of developments at MHA and garner interest
Develops and writes grant proposals to corporate and foundation partners
Strategic major individual donor management: Manages a portfolio of major donors (capable of gifts over $100K per year) with a specific interest in funding research or public policy; manages only those relationships that require advanced and engaged knowledge of mental health
The Senior Director for Corporate and Foundation Giving reports to the Chief Strategy and Finance Officer and works closely with the Vice President of Alliance, the Chief Social Impact Officer, and Chief Marketing and Advancement Officer on a comprehensive sustainability plan.
