Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides system oversight and local operations management of the Sterile Processing Departments (SPD) across the system supporting Surgical Services, various nursing units, and off-site clinics. Ensures coordinated and timely delivery of reprocessed items to clinical stakeholders within the health care organization. Ensures local facility sterilization and High Level Disinfection (HLD) functions comply with all regulatory requirements. Manages SPD personnel and serves as liaison between SPD and other departments. Maintains effective interdepartmental relationships, coordinates and resolves problems, and ensures cooperation with other programs and services. In conjunction with Surgical Services Directors as well as other department directors, manages the overall SPD budget for the system including determining resource needs, allocation resources and ensuring proper utilization in productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness of SPD operations. Develops and maintains a system of internal reviews that ensure service programs operation in compliance with regulatory and accrediting organizations.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a minimum of 7 years in Sterile Processing with increasing responsibility. Prior management experience required.
Manual dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instrumentation.
Microsoft office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), various applications related to Instrument management (Censis, OneSource).
Technical Skills: Due to the highly technical nature, especially related to interpretation of manufacturer’s Instructions For Use (IFU), ALL SPD staff must be proficient in spoken and written English.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
Associate Degree in Healthcare. Required; BSN or Bachelor’s degree in science or healthcare preferred.
Maintains currency with four SPD certifications - Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), secondary certification for CS management (CHL), secondary certification for instrumentation. (CIS), certification for endoscope reprocessing (CER) through International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Materiel Management (IAHCSMM); or Central Processing Technician Certificate (CSPDT), Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM), SURGICAL INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION (CSIS), FLEXIBLE ENDOSCOPE REPROCESSOR -GI SCOPE CERTIFICATION (CFER) through Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). If a Registered Nurse, must be licensed in the State of Texas. Note: Certifications must be maintained as a term of employment.
