Job Summary
Geisinger Genomic Science is developing new software tools to support both research and clinical applications of population-scale genomic data with the goal of integrating genomic data into routine care. This is an opportunity to build cloud-native systems from the ground up in a dynamic environment that marries the energy of a start-up to the stability of a large healthcare system.The Lead Engineer/ Architect will be directly responsible for the development and deployment of software applications supporting the management, processing, and analysis of genomic data. Applications may include:· databases, data warehouses, and knowledgebases· user-driven workflow and analysis systems· event-driven automated data pipelines· genomic data annotation and interpretation services· genomic data processing pipelinesThe Lead Engineer/ Architect also provides support as a consultant and collaborator to bioinformatics scientists and software engineering teams and serves as a mentor to other engineers.Job Duties
- Provides technical leadership in software engineering.
- Designs and implements cloud-native application architecture.
- Gathers requirements and designs software solutions for maximizing the value of genomic data.
- Manages the software development lifecycle for assigned projects.
- Contributes directly to software development.
- Mentors other engineers.
- Serves as a resource for software engineering expertise and collaborates with others to translate ideas into production software solutions.

Position Details
Qualifications:
- MS or BS in computer science, bioinformatics or a related field
- 7+ years of relevant professional experience
- Demonstrated expertise in the following areas:
- Software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Cloud-native application architecture design and implementation (AWS preferred)
- Serverless and containerized development and deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, Lambda, Step Functions, Glue, etc.)
- Building and optimizing 'big data' pipelines and architecture
- Python, Ruby or a similar modern scripting language
- Experience in a regulated healthcare (CAP, CLIA, NY, FDA, etc.) or similar environment preferred
Education
Bachelor's Degree-Related Field of Study (Required), Master's Degree-Related Field of Study (Preferred)Experience
Minimum of 7 years-Relevant experience* (Required)Certification(s) and License(s)
