The Amarillo VA Health Care System is seeking a (Physician) Chief of Staff to further the education and clinical development at the facility. The Chief of Staff (COS) is a member of the AVAHCS senior leadership team and responsible for overseeing and guiding the clinical operation of AVAHCS for the clinical operations of an academic, affiliated medical center. He/she must have significant leadership, mentoring and management experience in a full-service care environment and strong health care operations and planning experience to include the academic missions of education and should have credentials warranting academic appointments as Associate/Full Professor at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. The Chief of Staff, in collaboration with the Clinical Service Chiefs supports the graduate medical education programs. The Chief of Staff reports to the Director of the Medical Center and collaborates with the Associate Director and Associate Director for Patient Care Services. In addition, the Chief of Staff collaborates with VISN 17 Network Management, other VISN 17 Network facilities, and Department of Veterans Affairs entities. The Chief of Staff is responsible for meeting all applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies for a full service mid-level care facility within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Chief of Staff works with Quality Management and Clinical Service Leaders to ensure that clinical performance improvement recommendations from third party reviews are implemented and effective. Examples of reviews include Systems Redesign (Advanced Clinic Access), Office of Inspector General (OIG), VISN 17, The Joint Commission, and other accrediting and review entities. The reviews and actions taken based upon findings and recommendations help to ensure that services provided by the medical center are in accordance with standards that govern the quality of care. The Chief of Staff works with the multiple clinical and administrative chiefs throughout the organization to ensure the implementation of policy, ethical decision-making, planning, timely budget formulations, knowledge of patient care performance, quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, cost-effective/efficient service delivery, and management of professional staff matters. The Chief of Staff provides leadership to the Medical Executive Board (executive committee of the medical staff), keeping the Medical Center Director informed of issues, progress and overall operations of all relevant, clinical programs.
