Last Updated: May 28, 2018 JOB SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Patient Assistance Coordinator coordinates activities and administers the Baylor Scott & White Health pharmacy sponsored medication assistance program to gain reimbursement, assist indigent patients and decrease overall pharmacy drug expenses. Serves as the point of contact with internal staff and external sponsors regarding program details. WHAT IS EXPECTED (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Develops, coordinates, and implements the Baylor Scott & White Health pharmacy medication assistance program for eligible patients to include the uninsured, under-insured, indigent care and patients. Reviews and analyzes various information resources and conducts in-depth patient interviews to determine patient eligibility for pharmaceutical company-sponsored medication assistance programs. Coordinates and facilitates the application process with appropriate medical professionals. Provides advice and assistance to patients on complex procedures to ensure accurate completion of all documentation in the required time frame. Initiates fact finding and performs research on any non-processed or rejected applications to facilitate an acceptable outcome. Assesses patient's continuing care needs and determines the correct program and certification period to minimize patient deductible and maximize entity reimbursement. Works with pharmacy manager and outside vendors to determine the availability of new programs and additional benefits for the patient population. Monitors high-cost targeted medications to ensure appropriate reimbursement. Creates, prepares, reviews and distributes quantity and quality metrics reports. Maintains daily records of medications/reimbursements requested and received. Maintains a database of local pharmaceutical representatives and the medication assistance programs available. Serves as a liaison for reimbursement programs with internal staff and external vendor sponsors. Serves as an educational resource for healthcare staff on current reimbursement issues regarding medications that are part of the medication assistance program. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of pharmaceutical company medication assistance programs. Knowledge of the principals of customer service. Skill in the use of computers and related software applications. Verbal and written communications skills. Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies. Organizational and analytical skills. Ability to develop and implement programs. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to analyze information and determine eligibility criteria and enrollment requirements of pharmaceutical company medication assistance programs.
